How can you tell if your window is single or dual pane? An easy way to check is to try and get your fingertips to touch on either side of the window. If there's no gap between your fingers that isn't made up of the glass itself, you have a single pane. If there's a larger space, your window is a dual pane.
Single pane window glass is what you're imagining it to be - a single sheet of glass that fits in your window frame. Depending on the size of the window, the thickness of the glass can be 1/8", 3/16", or 1/4". Single pane window glass is available in clear, bronze, gray, or an acid etched pattern (AKA frosted glass).
Dual pane glass is also known as an insulated glass unit (IGU), a double pane window, or a sealed or double-glazed unit.
This product consists of two panes of tempered glass separated by a spacer that is filled with air. IGUs can be made to your custom thickness, and in a variety of glass patterns.
IGUs can also be made sound-proof, with laminated glass and insulated air in the spacer.
